FAQ

What are OPTX • 20/20 lenses

OPTX • 20/20 lenses are ANSI Z87.1 – 2003 (Occupational & Educational Eye & Face Protection Devices) compliant and are small, half-moon shaped reading lenses made of ultra-thin pliable plastic and are designed to provide instant magnification to any glasses.  These remarkable lenses are the inexpensive alternative to prescription reading glasses.  And, they’re invisible!

  • No more squinting to bring words into focus
  • No need to have a clumsy second pair of reading glasses
  • No need to stack two pair of glasses.

Imagine being able to wear your favorite glasses and still be able to read anything you desire. Whether you choose Revo, Raybans, or any designer glasses, or the funky new wraparounds or classic fishing glasses, OPTX • 20/20 reading lenses will be your secret because they are virtually invisible from the outside.  Once they are installed in your glasses, there are no outwardly visible bifocal lines.

OPTX • 20/20 lenses are positive optical lenses and when properly used, they will change a near environment into a ‘far’ environment.   This is the desired objective.

Are OPTX • 20/20 lenses a positive optical lens

THE PLUS DIOPTER LENS MAKES DIVERGNG RAYS OF LIGHT PARALLEL KEEPING THE NATURAL EYE IN AN ‘OPEN’ ENVIRONMENT.

Basically, the OPTX • 20/20 lenses (which are a low powered magnifying glass in concept) make an object look larger.  People have reported that the lenses reduce eye strain caused by close work.  In reality, magnifying lenses have been used for over a centuary for this purpose, and are recommended and used by the eye care profession.  The plus lenses are regarded as absolutely safe for all reading.

Such lenses must have a reading strength of greater than +1.25 diopter if the glasses are to achieve the desired resultin a reasonable period of time.  Because a positive lens is not a prescription lens, the standard magnifying glasses are rated in terms of diopter and/or focal length.  A 2.0 diopter lens would be used at 20 inches (50 cm), and has a focal length of 20 inches (50cm).  If you habitually read at 25 inches, then you would use a 1.75 diopter lens.

To determe the focal length (power) of the magnifying lens that best suits you by direct measurement, you can hold them up in sunlight above a flat surface.  Move the lens up and down.  Find the distance where the sun forms the sharpest  and smallest image.

How do OPTX • 20/20 lenses attach and work?

OPTX • 20/20 lenses attach easily to any clean pair of safety glasses, safety goggles, sunglasses or dive mask, using only a drop of water. The special plastic stays in place using molecular adhesion – not glue. By molecular attraction (similar to the static cling stickers placed on your windshield at the oil and lube centers), these amazing lenses cling snugly to the inside of any lens. They remain in position until you have a desire to remove them. With no messy adhesivesOPTX • 20/20 lenses leave no residue. OPTX • 20/20 lenses can be removed and re-used as often as needed. It really is that simple.

Why are OPTX • 20/20 lenses so special?

OPTX • 20/20 lenses are a unique flexible magnifying lens that easily attach through molecular adhesion with just a drop of water to any style of glasses or mask, instantly converting them into reading glasses.

  • No adhesives are needed and these flexible lenses leave no residue.
  • Removable and re-usable
  • You can cut them with scissors to fit any glasses or mask
  • A patented product made in the USA
  • Specially made from a Bayer material called Texin® that will not yellow with time or break

Who needs OPTX • 20/20 lenses?

Who is an ideal customer for OPTX • 20/20 lenses?  ANYONE who needs reading glasses (with the condition known as presbyopia).

  • Almost every person over the age of 40 needs some sort of corrective lenses for seeing up close, and of course many younger people do as well
  • They want to keep doing sports and being outside
  • They all want to continue wearing their own sunglasses, and not pay for prescription sunglass lenses
  • Many need to wear protective lenses for work or do-it-yourself activities

When people develop presbyopia, they find they need to hold books, magazines, newspapers, menus and other reading materials at arm’s length in order to focus properly. When they perform close-up work, such as threading the fishing line into the hook, embroidery or handwriting, they may have headaches or eyestrain, or feel fatigued.

When they reach the point of not being able to read up close without stretching their arms past the limit, many people turn to single-vision reading glasses. But with OPTX • 20/20 lenses, you can convert your current long-distance glasses into instant bifocals, or your favorite sunglasses into reading glasses.

OPTX • 20/20 lenses allow you to look down and through the lenses for near work, and up and over them to see in the distance. OPTX • 20/20 lenses are better than regular reading glasses, because if you try to look up and across the room through the reading lenses, everything appears blurry.

Will they fit in any glasses?

Absolutely!  For best results, OPTX • 20/20 should be positioned in the bottom portion of your glasses. OPTX • 20/20 reading lenses were designed to provide distortion-free magnification from edge to edge.  Therefore, if you need to trim the lenses to fit into a small frame, the trimming will not alter the magnification.

What if I change glasses?

No problem.  Simply remove the lenses from your old glasses by lifting a corner of each lens and then reinstall them in your new pair. OPTX • 20/20 reading lenses are removable and reusable and leave no residue.  Reinstall by following the simple installation instructions on the package.

How do I know what magnification to use?

OPTX • 20/20 reading lenses are available in six different powers, beginning at +1.25 for the lowest power and increasing to +3.00.  If you already have reading glasses, then the power or magnification of the OPTX • 20/20 would be the same.  If you have no idea what your magnification needs are, then try to use this formula:  Deduct 35 from your age, then place a decimal between the remainder.  For example: If you are 50 and you subtract 35, your remainder is 15.  Place a decimal between the numbers and your power would be 1.5 or +1.50.  You may have to round up to the next closest .25 increment.

Have I chosen the most appropriate positive optical lens

Once you select the OPTX • 20/20 lens that you feel is best for you, (between 1.25 to 3.0 diopter) select some reading material. For a starting point, hold the reading material about twelve inches from your eyes. Gradually move the print away from your eyes and note the point where the print just blurs. This point should be your habitual reading distance. If you habitually read closer, you will need a stronger lens. If you read at a greater distance you need a weaker lens. Some experimentation is in order here, and you may try several pairs of glasses before you find the right pair for yourself. In general, stronger is better, but you will want to be comfortable with the lens you choose.

If you have never used lenses before, you will notice a slight disorientation when you read close (with the lenses on) and then look in the distance over the tops of the lenses. This is a good indication that the lenses are having their desired effect. The reason for this is that the lenses have placed the near work at a distance while the convergence system believes the work is close by. This situation is normal and is part of the price one must pay to avoid nearsightedness.
